EN 1398:2009 Dock Levellers – Safety Requirements Update

The Association of Loading and Elevating Equipment (ALEM) continues to play a key role in representing its members during the ongoing revision of the EN 1398 standard for dock levellers.

Latest Working Group Activity

Phil James, ALEM President, is an active member of CEN TC98/WG5, the group responsible for updating the standard. He attended the most recent meeting on 2–3 February 2026 in Stockholm, where detailed discussions took place on the proposed revisions.

The working group continues to make steady progress as it reviews and refines updates to ensure the standard reflects current industry requirements and safety expectations.

Next Steps

The next WG5 meeting will take place on 10–11 June 2026 in the Netherlands. The group will continue its work, with a particular focus on reviewing the commenting template and progressing key revisions.

ALEM members will receive a further update on developments at the upcoming Open Meeting on 23 April 2026.
